Mason slowly walked down the street. Drinking in the sight of the place he once called home. It had taken him over a year to get back here. With only a couple mishaps along the way he was finally home. Should he really say that it was ever home? He was sent to study a family and fell in love with a girl. Yes, he would call this place home. This is where his children were and where he wanted to be. It wasn’t hard to find the Belle Estate. Nothing much had changed on the outside and it was still the biggest house in the whole neighborhood. Even though he had been here before it seemed so much different somehow… Mason could feel his heart pounding in his ears. Would she even remember me? Have I changed so much in all these years that she has forgotten what I look like? What if she’s married? When he thought of that possibility his stomach dropped. He didn’t expect her to wait for him forever… Mason took the plunge and walked up the steps to the front door. He hesitated before ringing the bell. “Screw it.” He muttered to himself, and rang it. Immediately he heard what sounded like a little girl's voice yelling something. He couldn’t quite make out what it was but he was pretty sure she said something about the door. Mason waited what seemed like ages and finally he saw her, Harley, and this time it wasn’t continents keeping them apart but a simple pane of glass and some wood. She had a quiet smile on her face and she wasn’t wearing glasses anymore. When Mason looked into her eyes he noticed she wasn’t even looking at him and seemed more focused on something else. When she stepped outside and finally looked up at him he saw warmth in her eyes, then confusion. She was still smiling but it was faltering. Her mouth dropped open ever so slightly when Mason heard her finally breath out a word. “Mason…?” Behind his sunglasses, and behind his rough exterior he felt his heart break a little. How long had he waited to hear her voice again? How many nights had he stared at her picture next to his bed wanting her to be there? “Yea...it’s me.” They just stood there staring at each other for what seemed like ages. Harley was searching his face for something but he couldn’t quite tell what. All of the sudden she reached up a shaking hand and grazed her fingers across his cheek. Her eyes started to water up with tears and her voice broke when she said, “It’s you? It’s really you?” Mason reached his hand up slowly and placed it on her arm, “Yea Harley it’s me. In the flesh, not just through some stupid letters anymore.” Harley smiled ever so slightly before the love in her eyes turned into what seemed like anger. She recoiled from his touch and started to, what Mason could only describe as, whisper yell. “Do you have ANY idea how worried I’ve been about you?! You’ve been gone for how many years and you could only be bothered to send TWO LETTERS?! Have you ANY idea what kind of state you left me in?” Mason took a shocked step back, “I-” Harley raised a shaking finger in his face while tears started to stream down her cheeks and her voice cracked, “Do you know we have two sons together? Twins, Mason. Twin boys named Coheed and Claudio. You left me alone in that house with our children already forming inside of me. The press had a field day with finding out I was pregnant! I couldn’t even leave my own house because they were constantly outside wanting to take pictures of “the good girl gone bad”. What they didn’t know was that I never expected the man I loved to leave me alone when he said he swore to me he never would!” Harley leaned back and raised her arms up in front of her, “You wanna know what the worst part is? I never stopped loving you. Everyone told me to move on, find someone else new so I wouldn’t be the only legacy heir ever to be a single Mom for my whole life. But I couldn’t Mason!” She pointed into the house, “Those boys upstairs playing? Every single damn time I look at them I see you, and I fall in love all over again with my boys and you…” Harley wrapped her arms around her sides and hugged herself. Trying to calm the flow of angry tears. Mason raised his arms, “Can I talk now? Or at least explain why everything happened the way it did?” Harley threw one hand up in the air, “Go on.” Mason let out a sigh, “Finally...You know I didn’t have a choice in the matter of leaving you Harley. It was going to happen one way or another. I should have never promised you I wouldn’t leave, that was a young and dumb mistake. And about our boys? I didn’t even know I was a father until over a year ago! Do you want to know how I found out? The people that kept me locked in a jail cell, the people that forced me to kill their enemies, and the same people that took me away from you showed me a magazine that you were featured in a couple months after you had them. They still had a whole file on you Harley and they had had that magazine since it first came out because it was old and dusty when they showed me. How do you think I even felt when I learned about how I left you? How heartless of a person do you think I am that I wouldn’t care about you or my children?!” Harley just stared at him. The wheels were turning in her head and she knew that he would never do anything to hurt her or their children. He might have killed people but he still had a heart and she knew he would never hurt the ones he loved intentionally. She let out a sigh and reached out to grab Mason’s hands, “Look Mason. I understand you didn’t have a choice but I just had to get all of that off my chest. After so many years of nothing and plus raising these two boys on my own, it’s been really damn hard.” She felt Mason’s grip tighten on her hands, “I know it has Harley and I’m sorry. But I’m here now and I don’t plan on going anywhere ever again.” An light bulb went off in Harley’s head. But was it a good idea to do that? Her Father and Mother were still around and lord knows how they would react to him being there...and she was terrified to think of what Delsin would do to him… “Mason, listen. The boys teenage birthday is going to be in a couple of days and we’re already planning for it. But I can’t think of a better gift to give them than for them to finally meet their Dad. Just so we don’t cause a scene at the house I want you to meet me, and them at the park tomorrow. I can’t promise that they will react with open arms, but at least you will be able to see them.” Harley heard her Dad yelling for her in the house and she panicked, “Go Mason! Meet us at the park tomorrow afternoon!” The next thing Harley knew Mason had swept her up in one of those bear hugs she missed so much.
“I love you Harley Belle. I’ve never stopped” Mason whispered into her ear, Then he was gone. Just like that Harley was alone again on the front porch. Jensen came outside and stood with her. “Harley I’ve been calling for you. You’ve been out here forever! Who rang the doorbell?” Harley shook her head and gave her Father a quick smile, “No one Daddy. They were lost...but I think they’ll find their way home soon enough.”
