It had been an amazing past few days for Coheed. Him and the Unicorn Knights had gone to the beach, went out shopping at the local flea market, and even took a tour of the supposedly haunted Von Haunt Estate. He hadn’t seen Margot since that night at the club though, but he was texting her constantly. That morning there was nothing any of them had planned so Coheed decided to go for it and ask Margot out on a date. While he was waiting for a reply he was talking to his brother, but as soon as he felt the vibration from his phone and saw the text his eyes were glued to his phone. “Um, Coheed? Hellooooo we were having a conversation!” Coheed absent mindedly nodded his head and shoved his phone back in his pocket, “Well not anymore brother. Looks like I have a date with Margot today!” Claudio scrunched his brow together, “The girl you’ve been texting constantly from the club?” “Yea. Since we’re leaving tomorrow I thought it was now or never.” Coheed noticed his brother’s shoulders droop, “Don’t be upset bro! I bet if you asked Clara she’d be more than willing to go out with you!” “Th-that’s not it! I wasn’t even thinking about her…” Coheed laughed and patted Claudio’s shoulder, “Sure you weren’t.” Coheed pulled Margot into a tight hug, “I’m glad you agreed to come! I just wanted to see you one last time before I left for home…” Coheed could feel her fingers clench his sweater just a little bit tighter when he said that, “It’s fine...How about we go grab a coffee?” Once they sat down with their drinks and food he noticed Margot was staring at him, “What?” “Ya know you haven’t told me anything about yourself over these last few days. You’ve only asked about me.” Coheed shifted nervously in his seat. He found it uncomfortable when people asked questions about him. “Well...what do you want to know?” Margot tapped her chin with her pointer finger in thought, “Well, what are your hobbies? What do you want to do with your life when you grow up?” “My hobbies? I don’t even know if I have any...well I mean I like to swim in my family's pool and work out. And...I don’t think you’ll find my hobbies very interesting Margot.” Margot touched his hand lightly, “Please go on. I want to know more about you, honestly…” “Well...I find major corporations very interesting. I like the fact that you can start from the bottom and work your way up the career ladder to one day become the CEO. I guess that also goes hand in hand with what I want to do when I graduate too.” Coheed waved his hand in the air, “See. Boring stuff I tell ya. I’m really not that interesting of a person.” Margot giggled and shook her head, “I think that’s very ambitious of you to think that way. It’s nice to know that you know where you’re heading in life…” Coheed could feel his ears turning red from embarrassment. He’d never actually expressed what he wanted to do with his life to anyone, not even his brother. “Well...how about we go sit in the park now? Or, walk in the park? Whatever you want to do!” Margot opted for sitting and talking more in the park. She noticed at the cafe that Coheed became very uncomfortable when she asked him about himself, and she wanted him to open up to her because she cared for him. Her thoughts were interrupted by Coheed nudging her shoulder, “Now that you’ve gotten some stuff out of me, why don’t you tell me what you want from life.” Margot laughed nervously and shrugged her shoulders, “Honestly? I’d love to have a large garden that I can work in all day long, and maybe even sell the produce at a farmers market. Of course I’d keep some for myself, the best pickings obviously, and use them to cook delicious homemade meals! Ugh, could you imagine a fruit salad with fresh grapes, apples, and bananas?!” Coheed chuckled and shook his head, “That actually sounds like a nice was to live...fresh produce every day, meals cooked with stuff that is grown with your own bare hands.” They both sat in silence for a while after that. Taking in their surroundings and the beauty of Windenburg, but Coheed’s mind kept drifting. He had genuine feelings for Margot but he couldn’t get over the fact that she might change when she knew who he actually was. He didn’t want to waste his feelings on someone who might not be worth it so he took a second chance that day, “Margot I have to tell you something. Hear me out please. Usually when I tell people this they...change. And not for the better.” Margot looked at him nervously, “Okay?” “Well. I’m a legacy heir. Well I could be one. See me and Claudio are apart of this thing called a legacy that our Great-Great-Great-Great Grandma Violet started years ago and the basis of it is building up a family that can withstand generations of people. There’s an heir picked at the end of every generation by the people that follow our families progress. I know it sounds weird but it’s kind of nice. We’re not the only people that do it too, according to my Grandma Celine our family has other legacies intertwined with it too. I know this is a lot to take in but I felt like you should know.” Margot sat back on the bench and stared at the fountain in front of them for a minute, “Wow, that is a lot to take in...so your family is that important, huh?” “Well we aren’t important. We just are well known where I come from. It’s annoying honestly because it’s hard to find true friends while you’re in school. That’s why we usually just stick together as a family. People probably think we’re stuck up because of that too…” Margot got up from the bench and turned around with her hand outstretched, “Well how about we take us one step at a time. I’m still me and I’m not going to change because you’re apart of this whole legacy deal. Let’s head home.” As they made their way to a taxi waiting to pick them up, Coheed felt a sudden panic come over him. This was the last time he’d see Margot, possibly forever if he didn’t tell her how he actually felt. He’d been dancing around the topic the entire day and here they were about to leave. He couldn’t let her go just yet. He clenched her hand tighter and spun her around, quickly grabbing the other hand in his, “Margot listen to me. I’ve never opened up to anyone like I did today with you. I care for you... a lot. I just wanted you to know that before we left. I’m not very good with explaining my feelings as you can obviously tell…” Coheed lifted her hands up and planted a gentle kiss on top,
“But I want you to know that if you want this to be something else, my home in Newcrest is always open to you.” “I...I don’t know what to say. I do want this to go farther but neither of us has graduated yet...how about once that happens we’ll see if we can plan a trip for me to come see you? In the meantime we’ll video chat, text, and even talk on the phone, okay?” Coheed nodded his head and let go of one of her hands while still holding on to the other. As they climbed into the taxi he couldn’t help but feel happy. He was afraid she would freak out and say that she loved him and of course she would come to Newcrest with him. Instead he got a response that made sense. Margot was grounded with a good head on her shoulders and that’s exactly what he liked in a girl.
