“I say, I haven’t been able to find this monster in weeks! It’s bright pink, how can I miss it?!”
Clara smiled as she watched Cullen perform his take on the “Granite Falls Monster” with the new puppets that Claudio had bought him recently. He had been going to the studio less and spending time with the family but he wasn’t ever always fully there. When his phone would ring he would jump up and answer it as quickly as possible, afraid something was going wrong at the studio. Clara understood that he wanted everything to go smoothly with his new album, she was just happy he was trying to be with them again.
Cullen stuck his hand up inside of the puppet theatre and mimicked a mouth,
“Audience member! Are you even paying attention to the show?”
Clara shook her head out of thought,
“Yes I am! Your play was so amazing it had me lost in thought!”
Cullen stood up and beamed at his Mom. He was so much happier with Claudio around.
For a couple of weeks time flew by. Claudio, Clara, Cullen, and baby Genevieve were all acting like one big happy family. Cullen still begged his Mom to read him all of his Grandmother's books that she wrote and Claudio took up the task of rushing to Genevieve’s aid anytime she was crying. Everyone thought he spoiled her a little too much, but she is Daddy’s little princess!
When it was time for Genevieve’s birthday, Claudio didn’t miss it like he did with Cullen's. She grew up with her Dad’s brown hair and her Mom’s bright blue eyes. Taking after her big brother she wanted to be a Whiz Kid too!
Genevieve’s birthday brought sadness and annoyance to other members of the household. Sadness, because Claudio would be leaving again soon to promote his new album. Then annoyance, from Cullen because he hadn’t done anything he had promised.
The day after Genevieve’s birthday they had an unexpected visitor pop in to say hello.
Coheed made himself at home on the sofa as his Mom badgered him,
“You really should have invited us to your wedding Coheed. We all wanted to be there!”
“Mom I already told you there was nothing to really see, we got married in front of the Justice of the Peace and it was done. We didn’t want anything fancy, Margot especially, considering the baby and all.”
Mason chuckled and shook his head,
“You and your brother, both having kids before you’re ready. I swear…”
Coheed bristled visibly,
“Well unlike my brother I’ll be there for my family.”
Clara smiled nervously,
“Dad, you know Cullen was a welcome surprise and we wanted Genevieve.”
Cullen was halfway down the stairs when he heard his Mom mention his name and decided to go over and investigate,
“What are ya guys talking about?”
Harley patted his leg,
“Grown up stuff sweetheart. Why don’t you go upstairs and play Voidcritters with your sister. You know she’s been bugging you to help her level up her Meduso.”
Cullen ignored his Grandma and turned to his Uncle Coheed.
“Let me guess. You’re talking about my Dad and how he’s leaving us without making good on his promises?”
Clara’s face dropped,
Cullen patted his Mom’s shoulder. He was so tired of his Dad making promises and not keeping them. Aren’t Dad’s someone you’re supposed to look up to?
“No Momma I got this. You guys know that Dad was supposed to throw a pool party and invite you guys over right? Oh and on top of that him and Mom are trying for another kid! Yea! I heard all about that! Why would they want another kid when Dad isn’t even around for the two he already has?! He makes all these awesome promises and acts like he’s going to act on them but all he does is focus on his stupid music and his stupid album and his stupid career!”
The room was stunned into silence by what Cullen had said. He was always a sweet boy. Yea he had a mouth on him but he never used it to back talk or say mean things like he did today.
“Cullen. Don’t talk about your Dad like that. He provides for you and he has his problems but he’s working on fixing them. What your parents do in their spare time is up to them and if they want to have more kids, well you can’t stop them.”
Cullen jumped off the couch and started to storm out of the room as Harley called after him.
Just then, who showed up back at home? Well the man of the hour himself.
“What’s going on?”
