Clara stared at the positive pregnancy test for what seemed like forever before she heard a knock on the door and the sound of Claudio’s voice. She cursed under her breath and quickly slid the evidence in the cabinet underneath the sink just as Claudio came into the bathroom, “Hey babe- Wait are you okay? You look a little red.” “Oh yea! Totally fine! Wh-What did you need anyways?” “Well I was thinking maybe we could go to that new cafe that just opened in town for lunch tomorrow.” Clara sighed inwardly and nodded her head. When Claudio left the room she sat down on the cold toilet and put her head in her hands. “What am I supposed to do now...we aren’t prepared for kids. We’re just kids ourselves…” The next day early in the afternoon they headed to the cafe that was right across the street from their house. After talking to his Dad, Claudio had taken the engagement ring he bought out of hiding and slipped it into his back pocket before they left. While talking to the hostess he seemed fine on the outside but inside he was shaking and freaking out. “I got this. Yea I can do this. Just ask her to marry me after lunch. It’s that easy, right?” Clara had to hide her morning sickness from everyone, she’d been feeling sick ever since they left and standing in the sun wasn’t helping her at all. She went so far as to when she felt it coming on she would turn on the sink and the air vent in the bathroom to mask the sounds of her heaving into the toilet. She knew she had to tell him soon or he would start to ask questions about why she kept getting out of bed to go to the bathroom at odd hours of the night. “I got this. All I have to do is tell him I’m pregnant. I mean it’s a legacy and having babies is what’s supposed to happen, right?” When they were seated Claudio couldn’t help but stare at Clara. He noticed every single gorgeous detail in her face and the smell of roses still floated off of her, something that stayed in his mind since the day he met her. He could feel his nerves calming down slowly, because he knew this was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. “You look beautiful today Clara.” Clara on the other hand was a bundle of nerves and looked up quickly waving her hand in the air, “Oh yea. Nice weather we’re having!” She squeaked out. Claudio laughed, “No babe I said you looked beautiful today. Are you okay? You seem really nervous.” Clara massaged her forehead and nodded, “Just have a lot on my mind recently…” While they were talking and waiting for their meal to arrive Clara felt another wave of nausea hit her and she practically tripped out of her seat because of how fast she was trying to get to the bathroom. She didn’t have time to look behind her but she already knew that Claudio was looking after her confused. “Ah plum it all.” After she finished heaving her guts out, yet again, into the cafe’s toilet she rinsed her mouth out and stared at herself in the mirror. “Today would be a perfect time to tell him. It’s a beautiful day outside and it’s in a public place so if he freaks out he can’t make a scene because everyone would see! Yea we got this.” Clara patted the slight bulge that was already forming, “We’ve got this little one. Your Daddy is going to love the news, let’s hope.” Meanwhile outside, Claudio was trying to give himself a pep talk because his nerves were starting back up again. “Oh crap I didn’t order breadsticks. How am I supposed to put the ring on one if there is no breadsticks! Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, now I have to improvise. Uh, she got macaroons so maybe before they hand it to her I can shove the ring in there! No...she might try and eat it on accident. Ah plum! I’m just gonna have to wing it from here. May the Creator watch over me and make me not look like a complete idiot.” After their meal Claudio got up and pulled out a rose he had been keeping under his chair the entire time and gave Clara the same exact smile he used on her on their last day in Windenburg together. “For you my love, because roses remind me of so many things we’ve done together.” Clara couldn’t help but smile and take the rose, “Oh Claudio...you did the same thing on our last day together. This is so sweet…” Claudio took a deep breath and got down on one knee, and reached into this back pocket, “Well, I hope this is just as sweet…” “Are you going to-” “Clara Bledstone, I met you by chance in a pool all the way in Windenburg and I’ve never hit it off so well with anyone else in my life. We share the same hobbies, we love the same food, and we both love zombie movies more than anyone we know. I want to protect you from all the bad that you’ve experienced in your life and I want you to help me carry on this legacy. Will you marry me?” Clara pulled him up and jumped into his arms. Surprised, Claudio had barely caught her. “I’m guessing that’s a yes then?” Clara had tears in her eyes and she nodded her head vigorously, “Yes, yes, yes! A million times, yes!” Clara sniffled and looked down at Claudio’s chest, “There is one teeny-tiny-itsy-bitsy thing I have to tell you though…” “What is it?” “Well...I’m….I’m pregnant!” Clara could feel Claudio tense up when she said that but when she looked back up at his face he was grinning from ear to ear, “You mean...you mean I’m gonna be a Daddy?!” Clara burst out laughing as she felt the tears start to fall again, “Yes you will. We’re going to have a little baby together.” Claudio set her down gently and wiped the tears from her eyes, before grabbing her around the waist and passionately kissing her, “Come here you.” Bonus: Claudio thoroughly didn't enjoy the food. I mean look at that face!
