Life went on for Harley. Her parents were aging so she picked up more chores around the house. She did the dishes, the laundry, and cooked all the meals. The Belles were always self sufficient and no matter how rich they became they never wanted to hire a maid. Even though Harley picked these chores up she couldn’t run away from the real problem that was going on inside of her. Everyone was moving on without her. She changed her hair and got contacts but no matter what she did she didn’t ever feel complete when she looked in the mirror. Her best friend, Hazel Ikeda-Belle, turned into Mrs. Hazel Ikeda-Belle-Yuen. Then not long after that there was a little Hazel on the way. Harley was getting lost in the motions of life. Her parents were still madly in love with each other even after they grew old together, and she couldn’t help but yearn for that even though she had made peace with being a single Mom for the rest of her life. To fill up the feeling of being empty she started to organize more family meals, something that hadn’t been done even when Celine was little. Then the big news happened. Callie was pregnant. Everyone was excited about a new baby in the house and Harley couldn’t help but feel the same way too, especially since she felt that she sheltered Coheed and Claudio a little bit too much and now they could finally have someone to play with. Slowly the feeling of emptiness pushed itself away with the help of Harley’s twin boys. She regularly helped Claudio with his homework, and she would help Coheed too but he was very sure he didn’t need any help. Harley would sit back and watch how good her boys were acting. Coheed would help pick up all the dishes after dinner and put them in the sink for Harley to wash. Then Claudio would stand beside her and put the dishes away in the lower cabinet that way, “Mommy didn’t hurt her back.” The three of them would have regular movie nights, it would usually be SuperKids: Cortex Catastrophe or Lost Dog’s Journey Home. All they needed was some bowls of popcorn and a couple of blankets and they were set for the night. But in those brief moments when she’s alone, which is usually when she’s working on her newest piece of music, she feels the emptiness creep back up again. When she isn’t expecting it she see’s a flash of dark brown hair and gray eyes. It wasn’t the face of Coheed, it was the face of his father Mason.
Then the pain would set in again and as Harley’s fingers slid across the keys of the grand piano she would let the pain out. No matter where you were in the house you could hear it, and in these moments the usually noisy estate fell into a quiet lull. All you could hear are the grieving notes being played by a broken heart.
