The totally awesome spring break that they had planned hadn’t exactly been totally awesome so far. They hadn’t met anyone their age anywhere they went. Everyone they met had been either other vacationers that were older, or just old people in general. The Unicorn Knights were getting pretty bummed out.
After one particular boring morning filled with eggs and toast Holly had enough.
“Guys! I am so sick of not doing anything fun! How about we stop trying to find people that will help us have fun and go do something ourselves! Who says we need locals to show us the ropes? Why don’t we just do dorky tourist things like everyone else?”
Claudio glanced at his brother and shrugged,
“I mean we could do that. It isn’t like we’re getting anywhere anyways. What do you guys have in mind?”
Seiko chimed in,
“Well I’ve really been wanting to go to the pool! I heard there’s a super nice one downtown.”
“That’s a great idea Seiko! Everyone goes to a pool when they’re on vacation. Plus it’d be nice to relax and work on my tan.”
Turns out going to the pool was a big success. The girls sunbathed and Coheed and Claudio messed around in the pool splashing each other and sometimes an unsuspecting victim. Even though they had been warned by their Mom multiple times not to pull any pranks or mischief they couldn’t help but do it a little. They’d been partners in crime since they were kids, old habits die hard.
Seiko stared at Holly who looked back at her nervously,
“How are you?”
Seiko shook her head and enunciated every word in her question again,
“No, how are you.”
“I’m honestly fine Seiko! Things haven’t been more better with everyone. I mean sure my Dad and Uncle Mason are still on edge around each other but at least they’re on speaking terms! It could still be like old times where if they even got near each other a fist fight might break out. I’m just glad that we can all go over to Aunt Harley’s house and act like one big family again.”
Seiko nodded her head and smirked,
“See. I knew you had something to say.”
Coheed and Claudio were joking around in the pool when Claudio saw a shock of black hair swim past him. He wouldn’t have paid it any mind but the smell of roses permeated his nose, causing him to lose track of what he was talking to Coheed about.
“Uh, dude. You okay? You're staring off into the distance.”
Claudio shook his head and whispered frantically,
“Is that girl with black hair swimming behind me? Is she still there?”
“Uh yea? Why?”
Without another word to his brother his spun around and swam after the dark haired girl who smelled of roses. Before he realized what he was doing she turned around and stared at him with wide blue eyes.
“Uh, um. Hi.”
The girl raised her eyebrows and responded with a hint of an accent on her words,
“Hello. Who are you?”
Claudio could feel his ears getting red as he stuttered,
“M-my name is Claudio Belle!”
The girl giggled and swiped a stray hair away from her face,
“My name is Clara Bledstone. Nice to meet you Claudio Belle. What are you in Windenburg for? You don’t sound like you’re from around here.”
“Oh I’m not! We’re not actually. I’m with my cousins and brother, we come from Newcrest but we’re just on spring break right now!”
“Ah I see! What a coincidence because me and my friends are on spring break too! We go to a boarding school in Monte Vista and one of my friends parents thought it would be nice for us to come to Windenburg for a few days.”
Clara looked at the sky in contemplation,
“You know. It would be really neat if you and your family would come out to the club with us tonight. I’ll give you the directions and you’ll meet us there, yea?”
Claudio was dumbfounded. Had he just been invited to go to a club with a pretty girl? Not only him but his whole family?
“Yea, uh, yea! That sounds like a great idea. Maybe I could get your number so you could just text it to me?”
Clara smiled and nodded her head, sending another waft of roses straight at Claudio.
Claudio jumped back into the pool after getting Clara’s number and swam up to Coheed and Yusun, who were both snickering.
“What’s so funny?”
Coheed smirked at his brother,
“Oh nothing. Just the fact that you completely froze up when that girl looked at you.”
Yusun chimed in,
“Seriously! I thought one of us was going to have to dive in and come rescue you from drowning because of how freaked out you looked!”
Claudio frowned and splashed his cousin and brother,
“Shut up you two! For your information I have some news to tell you all before we leave!”
Claudio gathered everyone on the benches outside of the changing room preparing to tell everyone the awesome news.
“So guys I wanted to tell everyone that I have something big planned for tonight!”
“What? You have a date with that pretty girl with the black hair?”
Claudio’s ears got red and he started to stutter, again,
“N-no! She actually invited us to go with her and her friends to a club tonight! They’re all our age and it’s the first time we’ve gotten an invitation for anything so I think we should go!”
Alessandra smiled and shook her head,
“I think it’d be great for us to meet some new people.”
Yusun shrugged her shoulders,
“Well plum. If Alessandra’s excited who are we to say anything more on the matter?”
Holly laughed and nodded her head in agreement,
“We should totally go!”
