Things had been going good for Harley. She was working towards her Bestselling Author aspiration and to get out of the house she even got a job as a writer! Mason was on her mind every single day and she was constantly checking her email and the mailbox outside for a postcard from him like he promised but there hadn’t been one yet. Her heart still hurt whenever she thought about how he left her but it was mending slowly. Time healed everything.
Time truly did heal everything. Harley and Jensen were back on speaking terms, even though sometimes it was tense between them. It was a struggle but Harley wanted to make her family happy and do them proud since she was the heir now.
Since she had been working practically 24/7, Hazel decided it would be a good idea to go out and act like a young adult for once. So she invited, and practically dragged, Harley out to a local bar.
“Omygosh Hazelnut this place is D-E-A-D!”
“Well we’re early to the party and the place isn’t hopping yet so just chill out! Why don’t we go get some drinks to smooth out those nerves of yours?”
Harley laughed and they linked arms before they went into the bar,
“This is the first time you’ve been out since the whole “M” thing, right?”
“Uh...yea...it is. But don’t you dare think of trying to hook me up with anybody tonight! I am NOT ready.”
Hazel feigned innocence and batted her eyelashes in shock,
“Why dear cousin! What EVER would make you think I would do that?”
Harley laughed and bumped Hazel with her hip.
As they made their way to the bar Harley knew that no matter what she could always count on Hazel to cheer her up and make everything better again.
After they both had a few drinks, and Hazel flirted with a few of the guys there, they both decided to start dancing. They were both having a great time while dancing, laughing and talking but all the sudden Harley felt sick. She pointed to a table and asked Hazel if they could both sit down.
“What’s up Harley?”
“I don’t know I just felt really sick all of the sudden.”
“Well you did down like, 4 Zebra Fizz’s! Who knew you could hold your juice so badly Harley Belle.”
Harley laughed but abruptly stopped when she felt the same sick sensation again and that’s when she bolted to the bathroom.
Hazel rushed after her and got upstairs just in time to see the bathroom door slam behind Harley. She walked up and pressed her ear to the door and she was met with the sounds of Harley retching into the toilet.
“Harley?! Are you okay? Do you want me to come in there and hold your hair? I mean jeez girl if I knew you couldn’t handle your juice that much I wouldn’t have let you drink!”
Hazel had to quickly step away from the door because Harley had cracked it open and was peeking through the crack with tears in her eyes.
“Harley! What’s wrong?! Why are you crying hun?!”
Harley was sobbing and couldn’t get out any words so Hazel put her hands on her shoulders,
“Breaaathe. Take deep breaths and then tell me what’s going on.”
After Harley got her breathing under control she wiped the tears away from her eyes,
“Well I don’t think it’s the drinks that are making me sick.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’ve been feeling sick for a while now and I didn’t want to tell anybody because I knew they’d freak out and just confirm my fears for me...”
Hazel took a step back and spread out her arms,
“Oh no. Don’t tell me you think...”
The tears started to fall out of her eyes again and Harley covered her mouth to stifle a sob,
“I think I’m pregnant Hazel.”
